Cast a Meihua Yishu hexagram

A frozen clock, or three integers, sets the upper trigram, the lower trigram and the moving line. Body and Use are read after that. The day turns at 23:00.

Numbers become a hexagram; the hexagram splits Body and Use

Cast Meihua in three steps

First, write the one matter you want to ask about. Keep it to something already underway, or a decision you have to make soon. A specific question keeps Body and Use from sliding onto a second matter.

Second, pick one method. The default uses the clock frozen when you ask. You can instead give three positive integers. One cast uses one method. Do not mix the clock and the three numbers.

Third, read the hexagram. The original, the nuclear, the changed, Body, Use, and the five-phase relation are computed once. The same input always yields the same hexagram. The reading does not change a line afterward.

What to have ready

Write the question before you cast. One sentence is enough: who, which matter, and what you want to judge. Do not put two unrelated matters in the same hexagram.

You do not need a birth time. A time cast uses the moment you ask, not the moment you were born. A three-number cast uses the three integers you give, and it does not read a birth chart.

If you are not sure the matter fits, start with what Meihua is.

Sample questions

Adapt these to your own matter. Questions about how you are holding up describe a feeling. They are not a diagnosis.

  • A relationship: Will they write back this week? After we meet, does this continue?
  • Work: Should I keep waiting on this job? If I push now, where does it stick?
  • Money already spent: Is there still a way through? Should I pause this expense?
  • A choice: Of the two things in front of me, which comes first? Should I settle this now?
  • How you are holding up: Sleep has been light. Will this stretch ease? This is not a medical opinion.
  • A document or a lost thing: Which step is it stuck on? Is it still in the place I already looked?

How a Meihua hexagram is calculated

Meihua turns this one question into a hexagram you can check. The input is the matter you wrote, plus one method: the clock frozen when you ask, or three positive integers. The output is the upper trigram, the lower trigram, the moving line, the original hexagram, the nuclear hexagram, the changed hexagram, Body, Use, the relation between them, and the seasonal mark the month gives each one. Check those fields before you read the wording.

fatequery casts the hexagram with a fixed rule, then lets the AI explain only the fields already on it. A different method, clock, or set of numbers makes a different hexagram. The same input always yields the same one.

What the cast needs

A birth date, birth time, and gender are not required. The cast needs this question, and one method.

  • The matter: one thing already underway, or a decision you have to make soon. Leave two unrelated matters out of the same hexagram.
  • The method: time, or three numbers. One cast uses one. A time cast does not also take three numbers.
  • A time cast uses the device timezone frozen when you ask. The day turns at 23:00. After that, the lunar day moves forward before it enters the sum.
  • A three-number cast uses three integers from 1 to 99999. The first sets the upper trigram, the second the lower, and the third the moving line.

How a time cast is counted

The clock is first turned into the lunar calendar. Add the year branch, the lunar month, and the lunar day, then divide by 8. The remainder is the upper trigram. Add the hour branch and divide by 8 for the lower trigram. Divide that same sum by 6 for the moving line. The branches run from Zi as 1 through Hai as 12.

A remainder of 0 counts as the full number. Dividing by 8 and leaving 0 is 8, which is Kun. Dividing by 6 and leaving 0 is 6, the top line. Use the lunar month and day, not the civil date.

The count is written out in time and three numbers.

How a three-number cast is counted

Divide the first number by 8 for the upper trigram, the second by 8 for the lower, and the third by 6 for the moving line. A remainder of 0 again counts as 8 or 6.

Once those three numbers are fixed, the lunar month does not change the trigrams or the moving line. The month only marks whether Body and Use are in season, supportive, resting, constrained, or out of season.

How Body, Use, and the other two hexagrams are set

If the moving line sits in the upper trigram, that trigram is Use and the lower one is Body. The reverse holds when the line is below. Body is your side. Use is the matter. The five phases take one relation only: Use generates Body, they match, Body generates Use, Body controls Use, or Use controls Body.

The nuclear hexagram takes lines 2-3-4 as its lower trigram and lines 3-4-5 as its upper. It has no moving line of its own. The changed hexagram flips only the moving line. The other five stay. This is not Liu Yao Najia, and it is not that changed-hexagram rule.

Body and Use are in host and guest. The nuclear and changed hexagrams are in nuclear and changed.

Which fields you can check

Before any AI reading, the chart already has the original hexagram and its two trigrams, which line moves, the nuclear hexagram, the changed hexagram, the trigram and phase of Body and of Use, which relation sits between them, the seasonal mark on each, whether this cast used the clock or three numbers, and the frozen clock or the three integers. Later wording can cite only those fields.

How the clock changes the day

A time cast uses the device timezone frozen when you ask. The day turns at 23:00. After that point the lunar day moves forward, and the trigrams and the moving line change with it. Before you compare two hexagrams, look at the clock that was recorded.

A three-number cast does not use that clock to set the trigrams or the moving line. The clock is stored with the cast, and it supplies the month mark.

Where to look when two hexagrams differ

A difference does not by itself mean one of them was miscalculated. The method, the clock, the lunar date, the three integers, how a remainder of 0 is counted, and which line moves can each change the hexagram.

Hold the question still, then compare one item at a time. First check that both used the same method. Then the clock or the three numbers. Then the line where the moving line starts to differ. Compare the wording only after those fields match.

The cast and the AI reading are two steps

The rule computes the original, nuclear, and changed hexagrams, Body and Use, and the month mark. The AI only arranges that finished hexagram. It does not change a line, fill in a birth time, or cast a second hexagram.

Meihua is a traditional way of reading. The same input can be cast again as the same hexagram. That does not mean the judgment of the matter has been verified. For reference only. It is not a substitute for medical, legal, or financial advice.

What is on the result, and how to read it

After the cast, these items are calculated, not added later as commentary: the original hexagram and its two trigrams, which line moves, the nuclear hexagram, the changed hexagram, the trigram and phase of Body and of Use, the one relation between them, and the seasonal mark on each.

Read in this order. Start with Body and Use. Body is your side. Use is the matter. Take one five-phase relation. Then see which line moves. The original hexagram is the cast. The changed hexagram does not erase it. The nuclear hexagram uses the middle four lines and has no moving line of its own. The changed hexagram flips only the moving line. Last, read the seasonal mark on Body and on Use. If the three hexagrams do not say the same thing, keep all three. Do not move a line to force one sentence.

What to check when two hexagrams do not match

When another hexagram does not match, check in this order. Do not start by rewriting whether Body and Use are favorable.

First, the method. One cast uses either the clock or three numbers. A time cast and a three-number cast are not the same hexagram.

For a time cast, check the lunar month and day. Do not compare them with the civil date. Then check whether 23:00 has turned the day. After that point the lunar day moves forward.

For three numbers, check the three integers, and whether a remainder of 0 was counted as 8 or 6. A different remainder rule changes the trigrams.

Then the moving line. Whether it sits in the upper or the lower trigram decides which one is Use. One line off, and the changed hexagram is a different hexagram.

Last, the month mark. It only labels the season. It does not change the hexagram already cast. Compare the wording only after the fields match.

The names are defined in Meihua.

Meihua on fatequery

Meihua on fatequery is an online cast for people who study the method. Write a question and the hexagram is cast. You can read the chart, continue with an AI reading, or follow the names in the knowledge base.

The reading starts from Body and Use, then the original, nuclear, and changed hexagrams, the moving line, and the month mark. The conclusion comes first, then the fields it rests on. It does not turn Meihua into Liu Yao Najia, or into the BaZi Ten Gods.

Study, and matters of work or a relationship that are already underway, can be read here for reference. If you are not sure what you can ask, start with what Meihua is.

Common questions

What is Meihua Yishu good for?
One specific matter that is happening now or needs a decision soon — whether to push, how the other person stands, whether something is still there. Ask one thing at a time.
How is a time hexagram or a three-number hexagram calculated?
Time hexagrams reduce year branch, lunar month, lunar day and hour branch. Three-number hexagrams use your three integers for upper, lower and moving line. The day turns at 23:00.
What is on the chart?
Original, nuclear and changed hexagrams, plus Body, Use and five-phase generation and control. Body is your side; Use is the matter. This is not Liu Yao Najia or Qi Men palaces.
Can I make decisions from this chart?
For reference only — not a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice. The hexagram shows an image; the outcome still depends on what people do.
