How the chart is opened
Opening the chart: year boundary, hour, Life Palace and star method
This page covers the year boundary, leap months, the hour branch, true solar time, the Life and Body palaces, the branch ring, and the five settings where the star method forks. The definition is not written here.

Twelve palaces
The twelve palaces: names, the branch ring, and the trine
This page keeps the twelve palace names, the branch each one takes on the illustration, the trine, and the opposite palace. Each palace keeps only its own domain.
View definition →
Fourteen stars
The fourteen stars: each tendency, and how a shared palace is read
This page keeps each major star’s tendency and the palace it takes on the illustration. Pattern names come last, and a name is not used when the chart does not match.

Auxiliaries and minor stars
Auxiliaries and minor stars: the six lucky, the six sha, and the spirit marks
This page covers how the six lucky stars, the six sha stars, the minor stars, the spirit marks and the Doctor cycle enter a palace that already has a major star. They do not replace the fourteen.
View definition →
Natal transformations
Natal transformations: which star carries lu, quan, ke and ji
This page looks up lu, quan, ke and ji from the year stem, and stops self-transformation and flying where the engine prints them. It does not invent four new major stars.

Decade and annual layers
Decade and annual layers on the natal chart
This page covers how the decade and the annual layer stack on a natal chart that has already been cast, and where the sentence has to stop.

What Zi Wei Dou Shu is
Zi Wei Dou Shu casts a twelve-palace chart from a birth moment. The hour places the Life Palace on one branch, stars sit in the palaces, and the four transformations mark where a star and a palace lean. The same star in another palace is a different matter. The chart does not assign a luck grade.
Palace names, the stars, the transformations and the decade are written on the six pages below. To cast your own chart, open the chart page.
Which page holds which layer
The six pages follow the order in which a chart is opened. The same frozen birth continues from one page to the next, so this page does not cast it again.
How the chart is opened holds the year boundary, the hour, the Life Palace and the star method. The twelve palaces holds the palace names and the trine. The fourteen stars holds each star’s tendency. Auxiliaries and minor stars holds the lucky stars, the sha stars and the spirit marks. Natal transformations holds the ten-stem table. Decade and annual layers holds the two layers stacked on the natal chart.
| Page | The names it holds |
|---|---|
| How the chart is opened | Year boundary, hour, Life Palace, star method |
| The twelve palaces | Palace names, branch ring, trine, opposite palace |
| The fourteen stars | Each tendency, a shared palace, pattern names |
| Auxiliaries and minor stars | Six lucky, six sha, minor stars, spirit marks |
| Natal transformations | Lu, quan, ke, ji, and where flying stops |
| Decade and annual layers | The ten-year step, the year, and where a sentence stops |
Where the names come from
Palace names, the star list and the traditional wording are checked against received editions of the Ziwei Doushu Quanshu. A received text can record a tradition. It does not by itself decide which star sits in which palace on this site.
The placement this site actually prints comes from the iztro engine and the settings stored with the chart. Each of the six pages cites the book or the setting it follows. The sources at the bottom of this page are those two, plus the rule snapshot.
When two charts disagree, compare the rule first
The books do not all place a star the same way. A page here follows the account it names. Another manual can use another year boundary or another transformation table.
That difference is a difference of rules, not by itself a mistake in arithmetic. Match the rule before you match the sentence.

Is the definition on this page?
Yes. The first section is what Zi Wei Dou Shu is. The six-page list stays after it.
Which page has the year boundary, the stars, and the decade?
How the chart is opened has the year boundary and the hour. The fourteen stars page has each star. Decade and annual layers has the ten-year step and the year.
Why do the six pages use the same birth?
So the Life Palace, the stars, the transformations and the decade can be checked against one frozen input. This page does not cast it.
If another book gives a different transformation table, which one failed?
Not necessarily either. Compare which table is named before you compare the sentence. This site’s pages follow the engine’s default table.
Sources and editorial basis
- 1. Ziwei Doushu Quanshu (received editions)
Used to cross-check palace names, star lists, and traditional wording. A received text can record a tradition; it cannot prove scientific validity or guarantee an event.
- 2. iztro Zi Wei Dou Shu engine
Supports only what the current fatequery configuration actually calculates: palace placement, major-star arrangements, and the recorded year-boundary, leap-month, and transformation settings. It does not prove that any traditional school is uniquely correct.
- 3. fatequery chart rule snapshot
Each generated report stores the engine settings that produced it. Compare those settings before treating two charts as the same calculation.
