Auxiliaries and minor stars: the six lucky, the six sha, and the spirit marks

This page covers how the six lucky stars, the six sha stars, the minor stars, the spirit marks and the Doctor cycle enter a palace that already has a major star. They do not replace the fourteen.

An auxiliary changes the condition; it does not replace the major star

The six lucky stars, the six sha stars, the minor stars, the spirit marks and the twelve spirits of the Doctor cycle are written after the major star. They need a palace and a major star before they have a place to stick. An empty palace is still written as empty, then the auxiliaries in that cell are named, and the major star is borrowed from the opposite palace separately.

The illustration is the same frozen set. The stars named below are the ones this chart prints. A name the chart does not print is not added.

The six lucky stars

The six are Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu, Tian Kui and Tian Yue. They add a kind of help to the major star: documents, an introduction, being seen. Help is not a result already in hand.

On the illustration Wen Chang is in Career with Tian Liang. Zuo Fu is in Health with Lian Zhen. You Bi is in Friends with Qi Sha. Tian Kui is in Life with the Sun and Tai Yin. Tian Yue is in Travel. Wen Qu is in Wealth. All six are on this chart, each written in its own palace.

The six sha stars

The six are Qing Yang, Tuo Luo, Huo Xing, Ling Xing, Di Kong and Di Jie. They add friction or a gap to the major star. A sha star is not a conviction and not an announcement of lost money.

On the illustration Qing Yang is in Wealth with Wen Qu, and that palace has no major star. Tuo Luo is in Travel with Tian Yue. Huo Xing is in Friends with Qi Sha and You Bi. Ling Xing is in Health with Lian Zhen and Zuo Fu. Di Kong is in Friends. Di Jie is in Property with Zi Wei and Tian Xiang. Write the major star or the empty palace first, then the sha star.

Minor stars

Minor stars are outside the fourteen. They are an added condition. A minor star the table does not print is not put into the sentence. On the illustration Health holds Lu Cun and Tian Ma with Lian Zhen.

Tian Ma only adds an “on the road” condition to the Health cell. It is not a journey that has already happened, and it is not promoted to a major star.

Spirit marks

A spirit mark is a note stuck on a palace, taken from a declared table. If only a mnemonic is remembered and the chart does not print the name, that half sentence is left out.

Write the palace and the major star first, then half a sentence that this cell also carries the mark from the table. The mark is not an event that has already happened.

The twelve spirits of the Doctor cycle

The twelve spirits give a palace a traditional tone, such as documents or a title. The spirit name is not luck and not a profession.

The engine does not print the Doctor cycle among the major-star rows of this illustration, so none is added here. On a chart that does print one, write the major star first, then the spirit. When it is absent, this section stops at the rule.

Illustration: Wen Chang in Career is written after Tian Liang

On the same set, Career is Tian Liang with Wen Chang. Write Tian Liang’s shelter first, then Wen Chang’s documents. Wealth has no major star. Qing Yang and Wen Qu in that cell are the friction and the documents on an empty palace. The major star is still borrowed from the opposite palace.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a lucky star as an event that has already happened.
  • Using a sha star to frighten.
  • Writing a spirit mark the chart does not print.

Frequently asked questions

Are the six lucky stars automatically good news?

They are not a result. They add help to a major star. On the illustration Wen Chang in Career is still Tian Liang plus documents, not an exam already passed.

Does Qing Yang mean money is lost?

No. On the illustration it sits in empty Wealth. Write the empty palace and the borrow first, then the friction. Do not write it as lost money.

Can a minor star stand as its own sentence?

No. The palace and the major star come first. The minor star only adds a condition. If there is no major star, say the palace is empty first.

The Doctor cycle is not printed. Should it be added?

No. This illustration does not print it, so the section stops at the rule.
