The fourteen stars: each tendency, and how a shared palace is read
This page keeps each major star’s tendency and the palace it takes on the illustration. Pattern names come last, and a name is not used when the chart does not match.

Name the palace before the star
The fourteen major stars are conditions, not fourteen identities. A star becomes a sentence only inside a palace. Two stars in the same cell can share one sentence. A star in the trine is written separately.
Brightness is written after the star. It says whether the condition in that cell comes easily or at a cost. It is not a luck grade. Auxiliaries and transformations only change the condition. They do not replace the major star.
Zi Wei
Zi Wei prefers to steer and keep the frame. On the illustration it shares Property, on chen, with Tian Xiang, brightness 得.
Without a chart it cannot be assigned to a palace. Placement is whatever the engine prints.

Wu Qu counts a result that can be seen, and the words can land hard. In the wrong palace it is not a wealth star. On the illustration it shares Siblings, on zi, with Tian Fu, brightness 旺, carrying natal quan.

Lian Zhen
Lian Zhen holds a standard and a clear want together, and friction in the relationship can become a contest. Both halves stay in one sentence. On the illustration it is in Health, on shen, brightness 庙.

Tian Xiang

Po Jun
Po Jun breaks first and rebuilds, and the pieces need a place. On the illustration it is in Children, on xu, brightness 旺.

A pattern name is not used when the chart does not match
A pattern is a name some book gives to a set of stars and palaces. The name adds no new calculation. When the chart really prints that set, write the palaces and the stars first, and only then say that some book calls the set by that name.
On the illustration Property really holds Zi Wei and Tian Xiang together, so that shared-palace sentence can be written. A book-name that needs Zi Wei in Life and Tian Fu in Wealth does not match: Zi Wei is in Property and Tian Fu is in Siblings. The name is not used. It is not a promise of office or income.
Illustration: which two major stars sit in Life
On the same set, Life holds the Sun as lu and Tai Yin as ke. The Body Palace cell holds Tian Tong as ji. The major stars of the other palaces are in the sections above, all from this one chart.

Common mistakes
- Calling a star strong without naming the palace.
- Using a pattern name when the stars do not share the cell.
- Reading the Sun or Tai Yin as a Western sun sign or moon sign.

Is Zi Wei the noblest of the fourteen?
It is not a rank. On the illustration it sits in Property, not in Life. The palace is still named first.
When do two stars share a palace?
When the engine prints them in the same palace. On the illustration Zi Wei and Tian Xiang share Property, and the Sun and Tai Yin share Life. A trine star does not count as sharing.
Does a dim brightness mean the star is bad?
It is not luck. On the illustration Tian Liang in Career is dim. That only means the condition in that cell costs more effort. Career is still named before Tian Liang.
The book’s pattern name does not match the chart. What then?
The palaces and stars on the chart win. A name that does not match is not used. Compare the rule before the sentence.
