Cast a BaZi match

Each birthplace clock is restored, both pillar charts are cast, then branches, day masters and elements are compared. You can read the match, or keep asking about one specific matter.

A BaZi match in three steps

First, enter both birth dates, times, and birthplaces. An uncertain hour shifts the Ten Gods and the element weights that follow.

Second, the program casts four pillars for each person from that person’s own birthplace, on the same rule as a single BaZi chart. The year changes at the Beginning of Spring. The month follows the solar terms. The day turns at 23:00 by default.

Third, read the comparison. Year branches and day branches, day masters and the Ten Gods, element complement, nayin, and the peach-blossom mark are listed once, then grouped into five themes. The same pair of birth records always yields the same comparison. The reading does not change a pillar afterward.

What to have ready

Prepare two birth records before you cast. Each person needs a date, a birth time, and a birthplace, in the civil or the lunar calendar. If an hour is uncertain, check it first. Do not let one guessed hour pull the other chart off.

The chart reads the structure between two sets of pillars. It does not decide whether either person should marry. A question shaped as “what is the relation between us” is enough. Do not shape it as “should we stay together.”

How a single chart is cast is in BaZi. How this layer compares two charts is in the BaZi match.

Sample questions

These questions ask about structure, not an outcome. The chart has no match score, and it does not predict whether a relationship will last.

  • Day masters: do the two stems combine, clash, or share the same stem?
  • The spouse branch: do the day branches combine, clash, harm, or punish?
  • The Ten Gods: from my day master, which Ten God is the other day master? Read it the other way. Is it the same name?
  • The elements: is one person’s weakest phase the other person’s strongest? If both lack the same phase, is that a complement?
  • Nayin and peach blossom: do the year-pillar nayin generate, control, or match? Does the peach-blossom branch from the year branch land on the other person’s day branch?
  • Family: how do the year branches sit? That layer describes family and elders. It does not say who is right.

How the BaZi match is calculated

A BaZi match turns two birth records into a comparison you can check. The input is both birth dates, times, and birthplaces. The output is two sets of four pillars, the year-branch and day-branch relations, the day-master relation, the Ten Gods in both directions, the element counts and whether they complement, the year-pillar nayin, the peach-blossom mark, and the layers that land in five themes. Check those fields before you read the wording.

fatequery casts both charts with a fixed rule, compares them layer by layer, then lets the AI explain only the fields already on the chart. A different time, birthplace, or day boundary makes a different comparison. The same records and the same rule always yield the same one.

What the match needs

Both people need a birth record that can cast four pillars. Without the hour, the Ten Gods and the element weights do not hold.

  • The date: civil or lunar. The year and the month follow the BaZi boundaries. Do not treat a lunar date as if it were civil.
  • The time: it casts the hour pillar. The hour pillar changes the Ten Gods, and it changes the element weights the complement uses.
  • The birthplace: each person uses the historical timezone of their own birthplace, including daylight saving. If a longitude is given, true solar time can be applied.
  • The question: ask about structure. The chart does not answer whether you should marry, and it does not give a score.

How the two pillar charts are cast

Each person is cast first on the single-chart rule: year, month, day, and hour, each with a stem, a branch, a Ten God, hidden stems, and nayin. The year changes at the Beginning of Spring. The month follows the solar terms. The day turns at 23:00 by default.

Each timezone is frozen on its own. One person’s birthplace is not used to cast the other chart. Luck pillars and the yearly cycle stay out of this comparison. That layer is time, not the structure between the two charts.

How the pillars themselves are cast is in the four pillars.

How branches, day masters, and the Ten Gods are compared

The year branch is the animal sign. The day branch is the spouse palace. Each pair is checked for six-combination, three-combination, clash, harm, and punishment. If one pair matches two rules, both are listed. Neither is dropped.

The day-master stems are checked for a five-combination, a clash, or the same stem. Each day master is then read as a Ten God of the other, once in each direction. The direction can change the name.

The Ten Gods follow the single chart. See the Ten Gods.

How complement, nayin, and peach blossom are set

Elements use the hidden-stem weights: the primary stem 1, the middle 0.5, the residual 0.3. Each chart yields a strongest phase and a weakest phase. Complement has one wording: one person’s weakest phase is the other person’s strongest. Both lacking the same phase is not a complement. When the strongest phase is the same on both sides, that is marked as the same phase. It is structure, not a fault.

Year-pillar nayin takes the phase of the last character of its name, then compares generation, control, or the same phase. The peach-blossom branch comes from the year branch’s three-combination, then checks whether it lands on the other person’s day branch. Both are structure marks. They are not lucky or unlucky labels.

The weights are in the five elements.

Which fields you can check

Before any AI reading, the chart already has both sets of pillars, with stems, branches, Ten Gods, and nayin; the branch relations on the year branches and the day branches; whether the day masters combine, clash, or match; the Ten Gods in both directions; the strongest and weakest weighted phase on each side, and whether they complement; the nayin relation; the peach-blossom mark; and five themes — the spouse palace, day-to-day rhythm, element complement, the practical base, and family and elders — each counting only the layers that actually hit. Later wording can cite only those fields.

How time and birthplace enter the chart

The day boundary follows BaZi. It turns at 23:00 by default. Near that point, the day pillar and the hour pillar can differ from the daytime chart. The year pillar follows the Beginning of Spring, not lunar new year. The month pillar follows the solar terms, not the first of the lunar month.

The timezone uses the historical offset of each birthplace, including daylight saving. True solar time can be applied when a longitude is given, on the same rule as a single BaZi chart. Before you compare two matches, look at both recorded times, both timezones, and whether true solar time was used.

Where to look when two matches differ

A difference does not by itself mean one of them was miscalculated. The birth time, the day boundary, the Beginning of Spring and the solar terms, true solar time, the hidden-stem weights, and the direction of the Ten Gods can each change the comparison.

Hold both people still, then compare one item at a time. First the stems and branches of each set of pillars. Then the day branches and the year branches. Then which day master the Ten God is read from. If the pillars do not match, do not compare the sentences that follow.

The match and the AI reading are two steps

The rule computes both sets of pillars and the comparisons above. The AI only arranges that finished match. It does not change a pillar, fill in an hour that was not entered, or calculate a score.

A BaZi match is a traditional way of reading. The same pair of records can be cast again as the same comparison. That does not mean the judgment of the relationship has been verified. Clash, harm, and punishment describe structure. They do not mean the two people are bound to part. For reference only. It is not a substitute for medical, legal, or financial advice.

What is on the result, and how to read it

After the cast, these items are calculated, not added later as commentary: the two sets of pillars side by side, each with its Ten God and nayin; the branch relations of the year branches and the day branches; the day-master relation and the Ten Gods in both directions; the element counts and the complement verdict; the year-pillar nayin; the peach-blossom mark; and which layer landed in each of the five themes.

Read in this order. Start with the day branch. It is the spouse palace. Check combination, clash, harm, and punishment, including a pair that matches two rules. Then the day masters: a combination, a clash, or the same stem, and the Ten Gods in both directions. Then the elements. Complement holds only when one side’s weakest phase is the other side’s strongest. Last, nayin and the peach-blossom mark. They are structure marks. The five themes only group these layers. They do not become a score.

What to check when two matches do not agree

When another match does not agree, check in this order. Do not start by rewriting whether the pair “matches.”

First, the stems and branches of each person. The year pillar should change at the Beginning of Spring. The month pillar should follow the solar terms. The day and hour pillars should follow the 23:00 boundary and true solar time.

Then the birthplaces. Each person uses their own historical timezone. Casting one person in the other’s timezone shifts the day pillar and the hour pillar.

Then the direction of the Ten Gods. Reading B from A is not the same name as reading A from B. Reverse the direction, and the sentence reverses.

Last, the element weights: primary 1, middle 0.5, residual 0.3. Different weights change the strongest and the weakest phase, and the complement verdict changes with them. Both lacking the same phase is not a complement.

Compare the wording only after the fields match. This chart has no score, so do not line it up against a score from another program.

The names are defined in the BaZi match.

BaZi matchmaking on fatequery

BaZi matchmaking on fatequery is an online comparison for people who study the method. Enter two birth records and the pillars are set side by side. You can read the chart, continue with an AI reading, or follow the names in the knowledge base.

The reading starts from the day branches, the day masters, and the elements, then the Ten Gods, nayin, and the peach-blossom mark. Structure comes first, then the fields it rests on. It does not score the pair, and it does not turn a clash into a separation that is already decided.

To read one person first, use a BaZi chart. With two birth records, cast the comparison on this page. The names are in the BaZi match.

Frequently asked

What is BaZi matchmaking good for?
Questions about structure: how the two day masters relate, how the spouse palaces sit relative to each other, whether the elements complement or duplicate, and how the nayin years relate. Not whether you should marry.
How is this chart computed?
Both charts are cast from their own birthplaces, then compared layer by layer: branch relations, stem combinations and clashes, the Ten Gods in both directions, weighted element counts, nayin and peach blossom. All from published fixed tables.
What is on the chart?
A four-pillar comparison with Ten Gods and nayin, the year and day branch relations, both day masters with the Ten Gods in each direction, element counts with the complementarity verdict, the nayin relation, peach-blossom positions, and five themes with their hits.
Can I make decisions from this chart?
For reference only — not a substitute for medical, legal, or financial advice. Opposition, harm and punishment describe structure between branches, not "you will separate"; the chart decides nothing for either person.
Why is there no compatibility score?
Because a score is assigned, not computed. Scoring tables vary between schools and can rank the same pair in opposite ways.
