Ten Gods: the day-master table, then resource, output, officer, wealth, and peers

A ten god is another stem’s relation to the day master, not a label on the year pillar. Look up the day master’s row first, then read resource, output, officer, wealth, and peers at the place that belongs to that group. Branches split into hidden stems.

Look up the day master’s row first

The same element is Peer or Rob Wealth. What the day master produces is Eating God or Hurting Officer. What it controls is Indirect or Direct Wealth. What controls it is Seven Killings or Direct Officer. What produces it is Indirect or Direct Resource. Same polarity takes Peer, Eating God, Indirect Wealth, Seven Killings, and Indirect Resource. Opposite polarity takes the other name in each pair.

The illustration’s day master is Bing fire. The table is only Bing’s row. A different day master needs a different row.

Resource is what produces the day master

Resource occupies only “produces me.” Indirect Resource shares the day master’s polarity; Direct Resource does not. Here the day branch Yin’s primary stem is Jia, and Jia toward Bing is Indirect Resource, weight 1. The month branch Wu’s primary stem is Ding, and Ding is not resource.

Write resource on the stem that produces the day master. The Wu month is not a resource month.

Output is what the day master produces

Eating God shares the day master’s polarity; Hurting Officer does not. The hour stem Wu toward Bing is Eating God. Wu’s middle stem Ji toward Bing is Hurting Officer, weight 0.5.

Output only names a stem the day master produces. It does not by itself become work, children, or spending.

Officer is what controls the day master

Seven Killings shares the day master’s polarity; Direct Officer does not. The month stem Ren toward Bing is Seven Killings. Gui would be Direct Officer, and this chart’s visible stems have no Gui.

Officer here is the month stem’s relation. Do not call the month branch’s primary stem Ding a killing. Ding toward Bing is Rob Wealth.

Wealth is what the day master controls

Indirect Wealth shares the day master’s polarity; Direct Wealth does not. The year stem Geng toward Bing is Indirect Wealth. Xin would be Direct Wealth. The hour branch Xu’s middle stem is Xin, and that layer is Direct Wealth, weight 0.5.

A wealth god is a control relation, not an amount of income. The year stem and the hidden stem stay on separate lines.

Peers are the same element as the day master

Peer shares the day master’s polarity; Rob Wealth does not. The day master itself is Peer. The month branch Wu’s primary stem Ding toward Bing is Rob Wealth, weight 1, and Wu appears twice, so that layer is counted twice.

Peers are stems of the day master’s element. They are not a list of friends or rivals.

Illustration: the three visible gods

The same chart: Geng-Wu, Ren-Wu, Bing-Yin, Wu-Xu, day master Bing. Year stem Geng is Indirect Wealth, month stem Ren is Seven Killings, hour stem Wu is Eating God. The month branch’s primary stem Ding is Rob Wealth. These are names of relations, not things that have already happened.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the year stem as the day master.
  • Reading a branch as one character and skipping its hidden stems.
  • Turning a ten-god name into income, a job, or a wedding date.

Frequently asked questions

Is the month’s primary hidden stem the same god as the month stem?

Not always. Here the month stem Ren is Seven Killings, and Wu’s primary stem Ding is Rob Wealth. Write both.

Why does one branch hold several gods?

Hidden stems split into primary, middle, and residual, and each stem takes its own god toward the day master.

Can this table be reused for a Jia day master?

Not Bing’s row. The five relations stay. The stems have to be looked up again.

The year changes at the Beginning of Spring, the month follows the twelve solar terms, hidden stems are weighted 1 / 0.5 / 0.3, and the day boundary defaults to 23:00, switchable to 00:00. It supports only the fields the chart prints.
