Marks: void, the twelve stages, and nayin can sit together

The void, the twelve stages, and nayin are three separate tables. One branch can sit on all three. The three tables do not collapse into one luck sentence.

The void follows the pillar’s ten-day block

Each block of ten leaves two branches empty. The day pillar Bing-Yin sits in the Jia-Zi block, whose void is Xu and Hai. The hour branch Xu falls in that pair. The year pillar Geng-Wu is in the same block. The month pillar Ren-Wu sits in the Jia-Xu block, whose void is Shen and You.

A void marks a branch outside that block’s ten places. It does not delete the character, and it does not remove the hour pillar.

The twelve stages follow the day master

The twelve stages are stations of the day master’s element around the branches, not a luck label on the branch itself. Bing fire starts at Yin: growth, bath, capping, officer, peak, decline, sickness, death, tomb, extinction, conception, nurture.

Here the year and month branches are both Wu, and Bing at Wu is at its peak. The day branch Yin is growth. The hour branch Xu is the tomb. Peak and tomb can be printed on one chart.

Nayin is another name for the pair

Nayin gives each stem-branch pair an element name. It is not the hidden-stem account. Geng-Wu is roadside earth, Ren-Wu is willow wood, Bing-Yin is furnace fire, and Wu-Xu is flatland wood.

Nayin does not change the ten gods, and it does not change the fire weight 3.8. It is an alias for the pair.

Illustration: the hour branch Xu sits on all three tables

The hour pillar is Wu-Xu. Against the day pillar Bing-Yin, Xu is inside the void. Against the day master Bing, Xu is the tomb. As nayin, Wu-Xu is flatland wood. The three sentences can be written together. They do not become “void and tomb, therefore bad.”

What BaZi looks at is on what BaZi is. Once the date, time, and place are in, continue at the chart page.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a void as if the character were absent.
  • Turning the stage names “tomb” or “death” into a health conclusion.
  • Using nayin to rewrite the hidden-stem weights.

Frequently asked questions

If the hour branch is void, does the hour pillar still count?

Yes. The void is a mark. Wu-Xu stays. The ten gods and nayin are still written.

Do peak and tomb contradict each other?

No. They sit on different branches. The year and month at Wu are peak. The hour at Xu is the tomb.

Can nayin’s earth be added to the 3.3?

No. 3.3 is the hidden-stem weight. Roadside earth is the other table.
