Month, day, and the limit: void, month-break, and one question

Month and day use the time of the question

Month, day, and void use the time frozen when the question was asked. They do not use a birth time, and they do not apply true solar time from a birthplace. The time zone is frozen on submit. 23:00 starts the next day. A question near that point can take a different day branch from the daytime.

The marks can be written only after a branch exists. Without najia there is nothing to be void or clashed. Compare the time of the question and the 23:00 day boundary before the marks.

Write void, month-break, and day clash apart

Void takes the ten-day cycle of the day pillar and writes the two empty branches onto the lines that carry them. Month-break is the month branch clashing that line. Day clash is the day branch clashing that line. The three can sit on different lines, and a line can carry none of them. Do not fold the three names into one word for bad.

The clashes are six fixed pairs: Zi–Wu, Chou–Wei, Yin–Shen, Mao–You, Chen–Xu, Si–Hai. If the month or the day is Zi, the branch it clashes is Wu, and the reverse is the same.

See whether the mark sits on the focus line

A line that is void or broken is not yet a result in hand. If the focus line itself is void, or the month clashes it, write that beside the conclusion. A mark on another line stays beside that line. Do not move it onto the focus line.

Void and clash do not mean the matter has vanished, and they do not mean it has already failed. They are marks on a branch: this line is not yet something settled. The matter itself stays the one that was stated.

One cast hangs on one matter

One cast belongs to the matter stated before the coins. Work and a relationship that do not bear on each other are two questions, so the focus line does not slide from one into the other. Two matters that have not happened and have not been stated do not go into the same cast.

Continue to the month, the day, and the moving lines only when a focus line can be taken. A whole life, or a whole year, does not settle on one line. The Zhouyi text attached to the hexagram is not the conclusion by itself. The same inputs can rebuild the same chart. That shows the chart can be checked again. It does not show that the matter already has a result. The cast also does not replace a medical, legal, or financial decision.

Line four, Officer, Ji You, is the focus line. Its branch You is void, and the line moves. Line three, Geng Chen, is clashed by the day. Line five, Shi, Ji Wei, is broken by the month. The three marks sit on three lines. They do not collapse into “the hexagram failed.” The focus line is void, so write first: Officer is on line four, void, and moving. Then decide whether to look at Bing Xu, the branch the changed hexagram puts on that line.
